A campaign is underway to uncover a hidden mural showcasing Wembley's footballing heritage.

The mural, which commemorates the 1948 London Olympics, is currently hidden behind LED lights beneath the Bobby Moore Bridge on the Olympic Way.

But local historian Philip Grant of the Wembley History Society hopes it will be uncovered in time for the 75th anniversary of the games in April this year.

Brent councillor Anton Georgiou, who supports the project, said: “I see no better tribute than to have the original mural depicting a relay runner on their way to open the Games, back on full display for local people and visitors to our borough.”

This is not Mr Grant's first campaign to uncover the decorations, having successfully had the “twin towers” mural returned to its original glory in 2019 and allowing the public to enjoy the commemorative artworks.

Currently, four are on display after he successfully petitioned Quintain, which manages the walls of the underpass, not to re-cover the commemorative artworks.
