A raft of roads across Brent and Harrow will be closed next month as residents and councils host street parties to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III.

Both councils have agreed to waive the closure fees to make them easier for residents to organise.

The coronation will be celebrated across the country and marked with a three-day bank holiday weekend from Saturday, May 6 through to Monday, May 8. Usually, it would cost around £2,500 to close a road for the weekend.

The coronation of the new monarch will be the first since that of the late Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. Wife of King Charles, Camilla Parker-Bowles, will officially be known as the Queen, not the Queen consort, following the ceremony.

Residents still needed to apply to the council ahead of time, however, the deadline to apply to host a street party has already elapsed. Applications needed to be submitted by March 31, with it typically taking around six weeks for a street party to be approved.

In Harrow, a total of 43 roads will be closed over the weekend for varying lengths of time. The majority of these will be closed for a single day, other than between the entrances of Woodway Crescent and Gerrard Road – which will be closed from Saturday, May 6 to Sunday, May 7  and numbers 1 to 12 Sandhurst Avenue – which will be closed from Sunday, May 7 to Monday, May 8. Please see below for a full list of road closures in Harrow throughout the weekend.

Street parties and fetes are a great way for neighbours to get to know each other more and celebrate this historic moment together.”
