We are near the end of week 11 of lockdown due to coronavirus.
As I write this, three of the main faiths are celebrating their religious holidays. For Christians and Catholics, it’s Easter, Jews are celebrating the Passover and Muslims are about to start Ramadan. Hindu’s and Sikhs, although not celebrating their religious festivals at the moment, would normally use the time to visit family and friends.
Normally, and that includes me, those that contribute to this column use it to have a go at the government or the council, in other words we use it to try to score political points.
Last week I had the honour to attend Brent’s Holocaust Remembrance Day at the Civic Centre.
We have been in “austerity” for the last nine years, resulting in government cuts and squeezes on public services. The reason is because the Conservative government led by David Cameron inherited the largest national debt since WW2.
With knife crime up 52 per cent, robbery up 59pc and gun crime up 30pc London is unfortunately becoming a dangerous and lawless city, with Brent having one of the highest crime rates.
