What a challenging year this has been.
At the beginning of 2020, no one could have predicted that a global pandemic would shut down the world; or the scale of the disruption and heartache that would follow.
Brent was hit hard by this deadly virus in the first wave and my thoughts continue to be with everyone that lost a loved one before their time.
As we adjust to changing Covid-19 rules and transfer into Tier 2, I would like to urge everyone to keep following public health guidance.
London could have very easily been in the Tier 3 category and if we are not careful, we might be there soon.
Despite the challenges, one thing I’ve appreciated is the way people from Brent have worked so hard to support others.
From businesses to mutual aid groups offering a helping hand, I have been so proud to see the best of Brent pull together at a time like this.
We’ve dedicated a Pride of Brent section in the winter issue of Your Brent magazine to our borough’s heroes and we will be sharing these inspiring stories on the council website and on social media.
I know many of us are eager to get back out to the high street, and if you do return, please pop into your local shops and see how you can support them.
As the end of the year draws closer, there is light on the horizon with the Covid-19 vaccine hastening a more normal way of life in 2021.There will be detail on the vaccine rollout soon – so watch this space. In the meantime, I would like to wish everyone a merry Christmas and a happy new year!
