As summer draws to a close, Brent is lucky enough to celebrate some record-breaking GCSE, A-level and BTEC results.

Congratulations to all the pupils who have worked so hard, alongside the parents and carers that guided them all along the way.

Of course none of this would be possible if it were not for our world class teachers.

These unsung heroes are making Brent's classrooms the envy of London, against all the odds and without the basic level of funding our pupils truly deserve.

This aside, I am so proud of you all, education will always be the most the valuable investment society makes and I hope that for our young people, the passport to their continued success.

As we get closer to 2020 and Brent's year as London Borough of Culture, I want the spotlight to remain on the amazing young people in our borough.

Earlier in the summer, Brent Council held its first Pride of Brent Youth Awards and I was honoured to hand out some accolades on the day.

Young people from across Brent were recognised for their selfless work helping others and their efforts in the wider community.

In these dark-days of division, with the poisonous politics of Brexit inspiring further hate and fear, it is always young people that give me hope that a kinder and fairer world is long overdue. I for one am excited to see what many of these civic champions go on to achieve next in Brent.
