With knife crime up 52 per cent, robbery up 59pc and gun crime up 30pc London is unfortunately becoming a dangerous and lawless city, with Brent having one of the highest crime rates.

Murders, stabbings, gun crime, robberies, muggings and burglaries are of growing concern to our community. People no longer feel safe.

Labour members blame this solely on austerity and the cut in police officers. I disagree.

Yes, police numbers have been cut since 2010, in fact they've seen cuts to their numbers for the last 30 years, by both Conservative and Labour governments. Currently, the loss of police in numbers is around 150 borough wide, which equates to around one per ward per shift.

In my opinion the police do a fantastic job of keeping us safe in very trying circumstances. However, you'd need to double or even treble the number of officers to make any discernible difference in the streets.

In London, Conservative mayoral candidate Shaun Bailey offered a costed plan to bring over 1,000 extra police officers to our streets. This was unfortunately rejected by Labour mayor, Khan, who would rather maintain his costly PR budget - which in my opinion is a heinous misuse of funds.

We need harsher sentences for perpetrators when caught and convicted not treating them with kid gloves. But I also believe that we need change from above. We must remember that as the mayor, part of his role is to act a the police and crime commisioner; and he has failed.
