A venue’s licence will be reviewed following a fatal stabbing.

Givani Espuet was stabbed outside The Aura in Harrow Road, on October 30, while attending a friend’s birthday party.

Despite the efforts of emergency services, he died a short time later.

Brent Council will be reviewing the venue’s licence, held by KN Bros, after strict restrictions were placed following the murder.

Measures set by Brent Council on November 3, after an expedited review by the Metropolitan Police, meant all pre-planned special events were cancelled and security had to be replaced with new staff.

The council banned one person from taking any role in the management of The Aura.

The venue was required to reduce its maximum capacity of 220 people to 150, close by midnight and enforce a “suitable gender mix” of door staff from 9pm.

Other restrictions include alcohol only being sold to customers “having a substantial meal” and the installation of a fixed metal detector at the main entrance.

Documents put forward to Brent Council show councillors relaying complaints from residents alleging antisocial behaviour in the area linked to the venue.

Licensing police sergeant James Clarke said: “It is the opinion of the MPS the venue has failed to promote the licensing objectives.

“The MPS cannot trust the venue to operate lawfully and promote the licensing objectives. The MPS seeks a full revocation of the premises licence.”

Brent Council’s licensing committee will meet on Monday (November 28) to discuss whether conditions should be modified, whether alcohol should no longer be sold and to consider suspending or revoking the licence.

The Aura was approached for comment.
