Thames Water says it has fixed a burst pipe that flooded 100 Camden homes and led to thousands losing running water for days.

In the early hours of December 17, Belsize Road, between South Hampstead and Kilburn, became a river of floodwater and emergency services worked to rescue families for basement flats.

As engineers worked on repairs, the water supply was cut off to homes throughout large parts of west and northwest London.

The water company is expecting the water main to be back in service this weekend and the road to be fully repaired in the first week of January.

Thames Water said in a statement on Friday (January 30): "Our engineers have finished work to fix the large pipe in Belsize Road that burst in the early hours of December 17.

"We expect to return it to service this weekend following some final tests.

"We’re aiming to then complete repairs to the road surface in the week of January 2, to enable the full length of the road to be reopened.

"Thank you for your patience while we’ve been carrying out our work."
