A serial domestic abuser whose partner died after falling from the window of a flat had breached a restraining order when he was found there.

Kathleen John, 39, was found motionless on the floor beneath a second floor flat in London Road, Wembley, in the early hours of July 29, 2022.

Injuries suggested she had been assaulted before falling, and broken items and blood indicated a disturbance.

Her partner, 51-year-old Leonidas Georgalla, was present despite a restraining order for domestic violence.

He was arrested at the scene and subsequently charged with her murder.

Georgalla pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was jailed for 12 years with an extended licence period of five years after a hearing at the Old Bailey today (September 1).

Emergency services were alerted to the incident after receiving reports that a woman had fallen from a height just before 2.30am.

Kathleen had fallen from a second-floor window and was found with major injuries in a pathway beneath the flat. Despite the efforts of paramedics, she died at the scene.

When officers entered the flat they found blood and broken items, pointing to a disturbance.

A post-mortem examination concluded that Kathleen had suffered injuries consistent with assault as well as a fall from height.

Police found Georgalla breached a restraining order on the evening Kathleen died. This was for previous incidents of domestic abuse against the 39-year-old.

His criminal record showed previous instances of domestic abuse.

Georgalla refused to answer any of the questions put to him during the police interview.

He was charged with Kathleen’s murder on July 30, but a plea of manslaughter was subsequently accepted.

After he was sentenced, Detective Inspector John Marriott, who led the investigation, said the 51-year-old was a “danger to women”.

He said: “At the time of Kathleen’s death, there was a restraining order against him for previous abuse she had suffered and officers established previous incidents where he had been convicted of domestic violence offences in other countries.

“We will never know the exact circumstances of how Kathleen came to fall from the window of her flat but the post mortem examination shows she had sustained assault injuries in the moments prior to this.

“While Leonidas has admitted responsibility for her death, this will be of little solace to Kathleen’s family and friends.

He added: “If you are in an abusive relationship, or know someone who is, I would urge you to contact police so we can investigate and provide support.”
