A pub roof partially collapsed after a fire that sent a plume of smoke into the sky.

London Fire Brigade were called at 5.49pm yesterday (Monday, October 9) to reports of the incident in Greenford Road, Sudbury Hill.

Ten fire engines and 70 firefighters tackled the blaze, which had engulfed the entire roof and first floor.

Video clips of social media showed thick black smoke coming from The Rising Sun Restaurant and Hotel, with people living in the area advised to close their windows and doors.

Station Commander Gary Deacon, who was at the scene, said: "The fire was producing a large amount of smoke and those in the local area were advised to keep their windows and doors shut until smoke subsided."

A 25-metre cordon was put in place as a precaution. He urged people to “avoid the area where possible”.

He said: "The roof of the building has partially collapsed, and crews are expected to remain on scene for some time this evening extinguishing remaining pockets of fire."

No injuries have been reported in the incident currently.

Fire crews from Northolt, Harrow, Southall and surrounding fire stations brought the fire under control in more than an hour by 7.13pm.

The cause of the fire is still unknown and is under investigation.
