A child had to be treated for smoke inhalation after a power tool failure caused a house fire.
Firefighters were called to a blaze in a converted house in Braemar Avenue in Willesden at around 9.15am on Saturday (February 3).
A man and a child left the flat where the fire broke out before London Fire Brigade (LFB) arrived.
The child had to be treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, while the man was taken to hospital.
The cause of the fire is believed to be the battery failure of a power tool.
Part of a three-roomed flat on the first floor of the building was destroyed in the blaze.
Firefighters said that the property had working smoke alarms, which alerted residents to the fire.
A LFB spokesperson said: “This incident shows just how important it is to have working smoke alarms fitted on every level of your home.
“Smoke alarms give the earliest possible warning when a fire starts and we would urge everyone to make sure they have one fitted in every room where a fire can start, except kitchens or bathrooms, where heat alarms are more appropriate.”
Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were able to extinguish the flames in just over an hour, with the incident declared over at around 10.20am.
Crews from Willesden, Wembley and Park Royal fire stations all attended the scene.
