A JD Wetherspoon barman has been given an award for helping to save a man who had been stabbed outside the pub.
Jean-Luc Julienne, who is bar team leader at JJ Moons in Wembley High Road, ran to the aid of the stabbing victim after he stumbled into the pub on February 13 last year.
He quickly instructed staff to secure the doors, call for an ambulance and move customers to a safe location, all while applying firm pressure to the man’s wounds.
Jean-Luc has now been given a bravery and meritorious conduct award by National Pubwatch, a voluntary organisation that promotes safe drinking, at its conference in Sheffield.
Speaking after receiving the award, the barman said: “I just did my duty of care.
“If I see someone in distress, I will be there to help. I just did what I had to do, and I had to help, and this guy could have lost his life.
“I just feel honoured to be recognised and very humble to have been nominated.”
Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon said: “We are proud of Jean-Luc. He fully deserves the award for the action he took.”
National Pubwatch chair Steve Baker said: “Jean-Luc went above and beyond to ensure the safety of this man who had been brutally attacked.
“It is a privilege to recognise his brave act and to thank him for taking such action.”
Maharshi Kapatel, of Field End Road, Pinner, has since been jailed for three-and-a-half years over the incident.
The 26-year-old was sentenced at Harrow Crown Court on August 8 last year for grievous bodily harm with intent and possessing a sharp pointed article in a public place.
