A man has been arrested after a driver reportedly fleeing police caused a major crash on the M1.
Police indicated for a vehicle to stop at about 1.05pm today (July 21) on junction one of the M1 southbound.
The car did not stop and was involved in a collision almost immediately afterwards, Scotland Yard said.
"The driver of the car fled the scene on foot and officers, supported by the police helicopter, conducted a search to locate him," a Metropolitan Police spokesperson said.
Police arrested a man on suspicion of failing to stop and dangerous driving.
"He will be taken to hospital as a precaution before being taken into police custody," the spokesperson added.
The M1 southbound remains closed from junction 4 while the incident is being dealt with.
Enquiries into the circumstances around the crash continue.
