A serving Metropolitan Police officer has been charged with rape.
PC Tony Watts, who is attached to the North Area Command Unit, is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, October 16.
The charge stems from an incident reported in May 2022, which is alleged to have taken place between mid-January and early February 2020 while PC Watts was off duty.
Watts was arrested in May 2022 and was later released on bail pending further investigation.
He was formally charged on Wednesday, September 25.
The victim, a woman known to PC Watts, has been informed of the charge.
The officer has since been suspended from duty as legal proceedings move forward.
