Sir David Jason has confessed that reviving Only Fools and Horses "wouldn't work" in 2024.
Discussing the beloved sitcom with Radio Times magazine, the actor discussed the chances of a revival with Jay Blades, who he currently stars in David and Jay's Touring Toolshed.
Although Sir David was unsure of an Only Fools and Horses reboot, Repair Shop star Blades was fond of the idea, sharing: "Oh, I’d love that. I want to be in it. I could be a long-lost nephew."
As Sir David responded: "You’d be long, long, long lost if you appeared in it."
Sir David Jason admits Only Fools and Horses revival is unlikely
Talking to Radio Times, Sir David added that he's had offers for the show but following the death of Only Fools and Horses creator John Sullivan in 2011it wouldn't work:
"I’ve had offers over the years, but without John Sullivan, it just wouldn’t work.
"He was a magician and could whip up humour out of virtually nothing, that was his genius. Without him, I don’t see it working, sadly."
Only Fools and Horses originally aired from 1981 and 1996 later returning for three TV specials from 2001 to 2003.
The sitcom also inspired two popular shows, The Green Green Grass from 2005 until 2009 and the prequel series Rock & Chips aired from 2010 to 2011.
Back in 2022, Sir David shared that he missed Only Fools and Horses, sharing: "I miss it terribly. It wasn’t like going to work; it was going to have some fun with your mates. We loved each other."
The actor appeared on the sitcom alongside Nicholas Lyndhurst, who is currently appearing in the Fraiser reboot.
However, Sir David admitted that he hadn't watched his old cast mates new show, telling The Times: "I haven’t seen the reboot of ‘Frasier’ yet with Nick Lyndhurst, my old co-star from ‘Only Fools and Horses’, but I’m sure he will have done a great job."
